June 20, 2017

Summers are all about taking long walks on sandy beaches, building sandcastles and collecting ocean treasures. I love using seashells and driftwood we collect to decorate our home with. One way to make your next home decor piece extra special is by creating it with treasures you collected while on one of your summer seaside adventures.

All you need to make this rustic coastal wall hanging using driftwood, scraps of canvas, jute string and metallic gold iron on letters. This DIY is so simple to make, its sure to be a hit your kids.

First, decide on an affirmation message. I love the saying 'Have Fun Every Day" and I played around with the letter and word arrangement on the canvas first before measuring and cutting out the canvas banner to match the message.

To make the wall hanging even more special, record where you found this particular driftwood or some memory associated with this collected treasure.

Sew the pennant banner together and once you've arrange the letters on the canvas, cover the iron on letters with a cotton fabric and iron on to the pennant banner. Try out different driftwood shape and sizes until you find the right one for this particular canvas pennant banner's width and height.

Measure and tie the jute string to the driftwood and you're done! This simple wall hanging is really beautiful with the different textures. The glittery message alongside the rustic jute string and driftwood adds a nice contrast. The natural 100% cotton canvas (versus bleached white canvas) goes really well with the other natural elements. Enjoy your beautiful beachy wall hanging using driftwood you collected while on your seaside adventure.
